Purpose of the Job

We are a small workshop of talented collaborators and are looking for a new addition to our team. As a Workshop Designer, you will support a variety of global cross-functional teams . Tasks for this project include creative ideation, developing fixtures, building photoshoot sets, creating look-and-feel iterations, constructing scale mock-ups, large format printing, 3D printing iterations and execution, and comping support for stakeholder presentations.

This position will be based on-site in Mountain View, CA 4-5 weekdays a week, with the potential to work remotely 1 day a week unless a build is happening.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creative thought partnership and effective collaboration with other designers on great design solutions and be open to efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain a customer service mindset with comfortability navigating a client-facing setting.
  • Required to meet with Workshop client lead bi-weekly.
  • Must be able to autonomously run various portions of the project.
  • Functions well within ambiguity as the project moved through various phases.
  • Craft models and mockups out of various materials to ideate on early design thinking.
  • Program and operate 3D printer, plotter, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, sewing machine, and soldering utensils.
  • Build 2D design files within Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Figma - being mindful of design layout and typography treatments.
  • Build 3D design files in SketchUp, Rhino, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
  • Pull assets from our internal DAM to assist designers with curation of assets.

Knowledge, Skills + Experience

  • 5+ years ID or retail design experience.
  • Expert level Adobe Software proficiency (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat).
  • Experience with SketchUp, SolidWorks and Figma.
  • Experience with cloud-based software (docs, slide decks, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Highly motivated, determined problem-solver with rigorous attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, flexible individual with strong communication skills.
  • Able to balance DIY passion with collaborative problem solving.
  • Comfortable and proficient with hands-on design and prototyping, without depending solely on virtual design tools.
  • Collaborative, flexible, adaptable, and organized.
  • Graphic design and production skills are a plus.
  • Curious about how something is made, how it works, and eager to dive into multiple disciplines.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven work environment with the ability to navigate ambiguity and proactively seek out answers, solutions, and information.
  • Resourceful, adaptable, creative, and results oriented with high energy and a positive attitude.

For California applicants: The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, certifications and work location. This range may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.

The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus targets, benefits and/or other applicable incentives.
