Description

LaForce is looking for a Safety Intern in our Green Bay, WI location to assist in the oversight of the safety of the company as it relates to OSHA, DOT & Environmental compliance to learn practical applicable skills as a safety professional. Develop skills in planning and implementing an organizational safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. This position is responsible for helping drive the safety culture at LaForce locations and departments, including office, manufacturing, and field installation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. Ensure these policies and procedures are up to date and maintained appropriately.
  • Assists in developing, planning and implementing training of managers and employees in safe work practices. Ensures employee training is up to date and recorded on an ongoing basis. Assists in the updating and management of the LaForce LMS system.
  • Assists in conducting and following up on the completion of the new hire employee safety orientation.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential safety and health hazards, helps determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Aids in providing information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Assists the administration of the Company's environmental compliance.
  • Assists in providing direction to employees and management to proactively address safety, health and environmental risks and concerns.
  • Assists DOT compliance for organization of delivery drivers including updating and maintenance of all driver files.
  • Assists in the investigation of incidents (including near misses) to determine root causes. Develops corrective and preventive programs and procedures.
  • Conducts safety audits & assessments/inspections to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Assists in maintaining safety files and records.
  • Assist in providing necessary safety information for bid pre-qualifications.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all employee matters as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in a safety management or related field; a minimum of two years' experience supporting and implementing safety initiatives; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
  • Possess basic knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry - related safety regulations.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with coworkers in various levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Attentiveness to details.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Possess openness to new or different ideas, and strategies.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different situations.
