Job Description

Overview

Responsible for underwriting new or complex commercial loans, typically exposures greater than $5 million, for both existing and prospective clients.  Underwriters will assist regional leadership by providing early guidance on new opportunities, actively manage the credit approval process, and assist with proposing and negotiating final deal structures with the client or prospect.   Underwriters will partner with our regional commercial teams and be proficient in underwriting credit risk, facilitating and managing the loan closing process, and for ongoing portfolio oversight.  Underwriters are also responsible for expanding and deepening customer relationships through quality customer interactions, and for the development of our lessor experienced Relationship Managers.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Partner with Relationship Managers on client and prospect calls, structure credit facilities and preparing engagement memos.
  • Manage the credit approval process through RCO/CCO engagement including loan presentation and preparation management.
  • Ensure that all loans are underwritten with a high degree of accuracy and in according with the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage the 3rd party process as needed including appraisal engagement, environmental due diligence, title company engagement and land surveys.
  • Manage loan documentation preparation process for attorney and loan operations engagement. Confirm accuracy of documentation compared to approval.
  • Evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions, determine the downstream impact of decisions and associated risks.
  • Resolve difficult or challenging problems by identifying potential solutions and clearly communicate with relevant personnel.
  • Keep up on industry requirements and standards through various training opportunities.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2-4 years commercial banking or equivalent experience for Underwriter I.
  • Higher levels will require more in-depth experience.
  • Excellent analytical and decision making skills
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • College degree and/or equivalent work experience preferred.
