Company Overview

Since 1970, Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative has been happily serving customers as the largest provider of natural and organic foods in Southeastern Wisconsin. Outpost operates three successful, beautifully designed and eco-friendly locations at 100 East Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, 7000 West State Street, Wauwatosa, and at 2826 South Kinnickinnic Avenue, Milwaukee. All stores offer a full line of delicious, high quality, all natural and organic groceries, conventional produce, naturally raised meats and fresh seafood, beer & wine, prepared deli foods and sandwiches, made to order entrees at The Fork In The Road Café, as well as a complete selection of personal care items and gifts, cards and more. Store samplings, workshops and classes and outside events are just some of the ways Outpost connects with the community.

Outpost Natural Foods was recognized as a 2005 Top Ten Small Business in Southeastern Wisconsin by the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce and Small Business Times magazine. The organization now employs nearly 350 people, operates a state-of-the-art commissary and is recognized as one of the largest natural foods cooperatives in the country. A hallmark of Outpost is it publishes a free monthly food and wellness journal (The Exchange) and a free local guide to green living and holistic health care in Southeastern Wisconsin (The Natural Choice Directory).

At Outpost the mission is simple: “Outpost Natural Foods exists so that its owners have a healthy, diverse and sustainable community.”

As Outpost would have it, the community:
  • has access to products and services that promote personal and environmental health, and goods that are organically and locally produced.
  • is educated about choices that impact their personal and environmental health.
  • has commerce that is locally-owned or locally-oriented.

Owned by over 12,500 individuals that live and work in the Milwaukee area, the cooperative infrastructure is fully supported by owners, staff and community. These folks have a strong sense of connectedness, belonging and fellowship that is unique to Milwaukee area businesses and serving them well is Outpost’s number one priority.
